What’s up dudes and dudettes! My name is Collin Downburry and I’m a California native. Born and raised in beautiful San Diego, California. I grew up as a beach bum, spending my days hanging out down at La Jolla Shores on the regular. By the age of six I was a full on surfer dude, shredding the waves and just loving life! I continued to spend most of my free time down by the ocean partying and having a good time.
Unfortunately, the party had to pause a bit as when I graduated from high school I faced a hard reality. My parents were tired of my party lifestyle and told me I needed to move out and start building a future for myself. After packing a bag of clothes, my skateboard, and my surfboard I moved down to a little shanty shack with some of my surf bros. It was an interesting communal time for me. At first it was cool, being able to surf all day and party all night. Then things got real when the rest of the guys at our pad had asked me what I was going to contribute in order to keep staying their. It was time for me to find a job.
I thought it would be easy to find a sweet gig that paid enough for me to get by but times were tough. All of the jobs for a dude like me with no real world skills and fresh out of high school were taken up by other people in the same boat. I finally got a gig working down at Taco Bell near my pad and I was stoked. Working like 20 hours a week, getting discounted grub sounded awesome. I was able to surf, eat, party and kick some funds back down to my roommates…or so I thought. Turns out even living in a shared shack down by the beach is crazy expensive in San Diego. The funds I was making barely covered my share of the living expenses. I noticed one of my mates had a computer and he told me he was making good money online just by building little websites. I called bullshit on his story, but then he showed me his bank account and my jaw dropped. This guy was making between one and two hundred dollars a day on what seemed like autopilot. Each new site he built only boosted his bottom line each day.
I asked him to teach me the way as I was tired of making chump change at Taco Bell. He agreed he would teach me for a percentage of my earnings for the first two years. I figured what the hell, I could afford to shell out some coin for an education that might one day make me well off on my own without needing to work a crappy job dishing up fast food. This site is my journal about my journey. My mentor told me I would be learning about stuff like Search Engine Optimization, Web Design, Search Engine Marketing, Pay Per Click, Online Brand and Reputation Management, and Social Media stuff. He told me I needed to first get familiar with Web Design and hooked me up with WordPress so I could get started building my first website.
I bought this sweet domain, and was all about building this site. This might now look like much, but it is mine and will document my journey to prosper in California. I’m going to be writing about my adventure as well as posting articles related to SEO, PPC, SEM, Online Reputation and Brand Management, Social Media tricks, and Web Design. Wish me luck on my journey and please follow along and see if we can become successful online together!
